I'm a web developer from Sydney, Australia. I also make music, play video games, watch movies, read books and do other stuff!
Mallow Drop is available on Google Play right now!
John’s been working on this as long as I’ve known him, so it’s a big day. It’s an awesome, fun game and I’m proud to have worked on it.
If you have an Android device then you should go here and get it right now!
The soundtrack is also available on Bandcamp, and I’m going to embed it right here:
I hope you like it!

I’m in another video with the other guys from Multiple Nerdgasm:
I play the role of… myself, I guess. We decided to just use our real names because it makes things easier.

So what’s been going on lately? A lot! I really need to post updates more frequently!
I’ve been doing Weekly Beats for 23 weeks now! It’s been good in that I’ve learned a lot, especially when it comes to getting things done quickly. But it’s also been a bit negative because I often rush to get something done every week, to the detriment of other projects and my social life. So I’ve decided that I’m probably not going to continue on with it after this week.
I’ve actually almost made this decision several times now, but each time I caved and spent my Sunday coming up with something for it at the last minute. Whenever I do that though the tracks don’t turn out great and it’s time that I could have spent working on one of the projects that keep piling up in front of me.
Obviously I’m not complaining that I have a lot of things to work on, it’s great! But I do need to manage it all a bit better, and I think Weekly Beats might need to go or at least be put on hold for a while.
Speaking of projects, Mallow Drop is still in development but getting closer and closer to completion! It’s exciting to see it progress and also to refine the music and the concepts behind what I’m doing for it. Initially I started doing stuff that was quite “chip” heavy, but as the game progressed it needed more organic sounds as well. So a lot of the tracks have been redone with orchestral parts and I’m adding in guitars and other real instruments as well. It’s been a really great project for me musically. I’ve been able to evolve a bunch of ideas and methods as the game evolved. I’ve really learned a lot.
There was a private screening of Bleedthrough the other week, which was really exciting! I did most of the music for the film, there are a few tracks that were licensed from elsewhere. Got some great feedback and also it was amazing to see it up on the screen with my music just from a learning point of view. I’ve definitely progressed a lot since the very first track I did, and there are a number of things I’d do differently now. But I’m very proud of it, and the film turned out really great!
A friend of mine is putting together a short film/documentary about what you might call the origins of his film making career. He and a group of friends made a bunch of short films as teenagers/young adults and he’s going to be interviewing people and pulling out a bunch of lost footage. He’s asked me to do music for the soundtrack and I’m actually really excited about it! Should be a fun and interesting project.
So that’s what’s going on with me. I’ve been really busy but in a good way!

Since I hooked up my Soundcloud account and realised I can have it auto-publish to Twitter and Facebook, I’ve basically stopped posting on here!
I don’t want to be one of those people who has a blog but never posts on it, so I’m going to make an effort to write more frequently.
Lots of things going on lately!
This Friday I have a private screening of Bleedthrough, which is a film I did the score for and has been in production for a loooong time now. I also have a small cameo in the film which is exciting. So I’m really looking forward to that, and also I’ll be posting a few more tracks from it over the weekend. The three that are already up on Soundcloud are actually quite old now! In fact I’ve gotten a lot better at some of things I was trying to do with those tracks, so certain aspects of them make me cringe and I’ve fixed them up more recently. But I’m not going to remove them because they are what they are and I love all of my musical children! They serve as a reminder of where I came from.
A few more game projects in the works and in the pipeline! More on those when I actually have something solid to say/show!
And Weekly Beats is ongoing. I’m yet to miss a week since I started, which has been especially difficult lately. So I’m quite proud of that.
I’m featured on the Game Engine Podcast this week! Check it out here: http://www.gameenginepodcast.com/2012/04/10/episode-37-topics-in-design/
They use my track Exciting Mission as the intro and outro music, and also give me a bit of a plug on the show, which is super awesome! The Exciting Mission track is the main “adventure” music from my friend John‘s Molyjam entry, Every Night I Dream I’m Better, which you should check out if you haven’t already!
Thanks so much to the Game Engine guys for the opportunity!

Week 15! I intended to do something quieter this week but then it evolved into this:
I’m actually really happy with this track, so hopefully people enjoy it!
You can also check it out at the Weekly Beats website, along with a bunch of other great music by some talented individuals!

Weekly Beats! I didn’t have a whole lot of time this week, due to Easter and my birthday joining forces. However I did this little rocky/chip thing that I think turned out pretty cool.

Last weekend was the first ever MolyJam, a 48 hour game jam based on the tweets of Peter Molydeux.
My friend John Kane was present at the jam. Unfortunately I was filming some goofy stuff with the Multiple Nerdgasm guys, so I could’t attend directly. But John’s entry features my music! And not only that, he was picked as one of the winners at the Sydney event!

This week’s Weekly Beats is on Youtube, because that seemed appropriate:
It’s a cover of Guild Ho!!! by Dodger Leigh and The Game Station.
I think it turned out pretty good so hopefully people like it!
Thanks to Dodger for giving me permission to use it!

I did that thing again where I forgot to post my track for last week on here.
This one began life as another SID thing I was playing with but then I added a bunch of other instruments anyway
This weeks track is up tomorrow and is cool! I promise to post it on here almost immediately.
The Songbird plushie currently on Pre-Order at Irrational’s site and being produced by NECA. I’ve been personally excited to hear NECA was making Songbird plushies, but now I’m a bit disappointed. The coloring was a weird choice compared to the brown/grey combo of the in-game plushie. What do you guys think of it? I do like the material and size though.
It’ll be $55.
Preorder at: Irrational Store
